     MEANING
1.       THE WORD STEREOTYPE WAS FIRST USED BY WALTER LIPMAN TO PERCEPTION
2.       BASICALLY APPLIED TO ETHNIC PREJUDICE

3.       NOW IT IS OFTEN USED TO SHORT CU TO PREDICTING THE BEHAVIOR OF PEOPLE.
4.       STEREOTYPING MEANS THE  JUDGING THE PEOPLE ON THE BASIS OF CHARACTERISTICS OF THE GROUP TO WHICH THEY BELONG IS CALLED
5.       OCCURS WHEN THE PERCEIVE JUDGES OR PERCEIVES A PERSON ON THE BASIS OF CHARACTERISTICS OF THE GROUP TO WHICH HE BELONGS. THE PERSON IS NOT PERCEIVED AS AN INDIVIDUAL WITH SPECIFIC SET OF HIS CHARACTERISTICS BUT ON THE BASIS OF GROUP CHARACTERISTICS. COMMON STEREOTYPES ARE THAT AMERICANS ARE MATERIALISTIC,JAPANESE ARE NATIONALISTIC AND GERMAN ARE INDUSTRIOUS.
6.       THE INDIVIDUAL ‘S EXPERIENCE WITH OTHERS IN THE CATEGORY IN WHICH HE HAS PLACED THEM LED TO BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE CERTAIN TRAITS IN COMMON
7.       GENERALIZATION BASE ON STEREOTYPING MAKES ASSIMILATION EASIER SINCE IT PERMITS TO MAINTAIN CONSISTENCY
8.       IT BECOMES LESS DIFFICULT TO DEAL WITH AN UNMANAGEABLE NUMBER OF STIMULI IF WE USE STEREOTYPES
9.       BUT DANGER LIES IN INCORRECT STEREOTYPING
10.    EXCEPTIONS ARE ALWAYS THERE. ALL GERMAN ARE NOT INDUSTRIOUS
11.    THIS FACT MUST BE CONSIDERED WHILE JUDGING A PERSON BASED ON THE GENERALLY ACCEPTED TRAITS OF A GROUP TO WHICH HE BELONGS
